A Lunenburg eatery has just been judged the best in Nova Scotia.
The Grand Banker restaurant has won Taste Of Nova Scotia's Best Restaurant award for 2017.
Owner Adam Bower says a big part of their success is dedication to using local ingredients.
"We get our seafood right behind us at the beautiful waterfront here. We get our scallops from Adams and Knickle, we get our fish from Lunenburg Fish Company. We get our beef from a local beef farmer in New Glasgow. We work with local producers at the market for our meats and charcuteries and cheeses."
Bowers says they also keep a large selection of craft beer and spirits on their rotating taps and behind the bar.
He says the local connection to the food they serve made the difference.
"It's why people come to visit us. They don't want to just see the scenery. They want to experience the tastes and the flavours of what we do. They want to know the stories behind the products."
He says when considering the number of high quality restaurants across the province, they are extremely honoured to receive the award.
Bower says his staff played a huge role in this success.
He says they worked hard to help the restaurant win the award and he plans to close the restaurant for a night this week to celebrate with them.
After that it will be displayed in a glass case in the restaurant for everyone to see.
