Shelburne and Digby are each getting a nurse practitioner and family practice nurse in their communities.

The provincial government is welcoming 23 nurses to 12 communities across Nova Scotia.

Both nurse practitioners have already started in Shelburne and Digby while the family practice nurses are expected to be in place by summer.

It is costing the government $3.6-million.

Other positions were also announced in 10 other communities including Windsor, Truro, Dartmouth and Cape Breton.

People who need a primary health care provider should register themselves on the provincial list by clicking here or by calling 811, Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The practices will contact people on the list as they start taking on new patients.
