A member from each of the three major parties has been forced to resign or been dismissed because of a social media blunder.
Associate Professor of Journalism at King's College Terra Tailleur says politicians have a tricky road to walk.
"We tell everybody be authentic, be real, be human, be conversational. Those are always the best practices for a social media strategy. On the other hand, we also say, do all those things, but don't embarrass us."
Tailleur says she's glad social media sites allow a more complete picture of the people asking for your vote.
"Wouldn't we want our political candidates to be human and to be authentic? Don't we want a snapshot into their lives and their thoughts and what they do when they're off the clock?"
Constituents have been pouring through sites like Twitter and Facebook in effort to learn more about the people hoping to be their representative.
Tailleur says a good rule of thumb is, if you wouldn't say it on TV don't post it on social media.
